Finally. I came home and tested my color champion female Cokie and she cushed! She was an amazing find in the penny saver almost a year ago and we took time to get her cleaned up, put weight back on her, get her reproductive system back in motion again. Needless to say I was VERY happy to finally see her cush and not spit at any male she got close to. Not willing to take any chances we loaded her up in the truck and took her over for a breeding I bought for EastWest Nasco. Cross your fingers! I’m hoping it takes!

These are 2 blue ribbon winners at the NY Empire Level 5 show and are full peruvian, Nasco is 1/2 Accoyo. I’ve got high hopes for baby! So far Nasco’s first cria this year have been 2 rose grey and a fawn. I have another beige girl who’s is due this fall by him too. Interesting, makes me wonder what colors I might end up getting. You’ve got to love the genetics game.

Crochet Horse Ear Bonnet
My mother-in-law is the one who really got me into crocheting and interesting in working with yarns. One of the first projects she worked on for me was custom made ear bonnets for my horses. They turned out to be beautiful works of art that get tons of attention any time I dress my horses up in them.
To those of you who don’t know what these crochet ears for horses are they are to keep flies out of their ears and the fringe keep the flies away from their eyes.
Materials alone to make the beaded bonnet came out to $40! Now that’s some serious equine bling! Best of all they match my barn colors perfectly.

Thought I’d share with you a sneak peak of the bonnets my mother-in-law has been working on. Each is hand crocheted, hand beaded, hand sewn works of art. She has made them in almost every color of the rainbow with different accents and bead styles. I’ll be sure to keep this post updated if she puts them up for sale.

Here’s photos of the test one I’ve been working on. It’s scrap yarn I had hanging around but I really like the colors. I’m going to see what fabric I can find that’ll match for the ears today. Maybe dark green or blue. I’m still not happy with the pattern I used. I’m going to try some different things before I make a pattern available.
Round Bale Bliss
There’s just something about having all your hay ready and waiting before the snow flies that just makes you feel good. Ahhhh. To me this is a very pretty picture.
(8) 4’x5′ 700 lbs round bales stacked and under a tarp sitting and waiting for a January snow storm warning to be set out in the field for worry free winter chores. This year I’m going to try using the Big Bale Buddy. I’ll keep you posted on how I like it.
